Ashton-Under-Lyne & District Walking Club
The club was formed in February 1931 when the subscription was 2/-
per annum. The subscription has gone up slightly but the membership
has increased dramatically. We now have a membership of 300 people.
Ashton is within easy reach of the peak District where the majority
of our walks are planned. Coach trips are organised to places such
as the Yorkshire Dales, Wales and the Lake District. |

The club holds walks on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tuesday walks
are split into two groups, standard and easy., so you can pick the
one that suits you best. These walks are held every week. The walks
held on Saturday are possibly slightly harder than the Tuesday walks
and the Sunday walks are the hardest of them all. Saturday and Sunday
walks are every fortnight. The majority of walks use members own cars
and car sharing seems to work well. Walks are obviously shorter in
the winter months and tend to get extended during the summer months,
the longest being approximately 14 miles. There are several meeting
places where the club meets but the main two are the Deaf institute
in Mossley Road, Ashton, and on the forecourt of Glossop Railway Station.
The times we meet are from 9.30am to 10.15am. We publish a programme
of walks, socials and slide shows.
