Saddleworth Pedestrians
Saddleworth Pedestrians were formed in October 1970 at a meeting held
in Uppermill and we now have over 100 members some of them from outside
the Saddleworth area. The founder members desire was to form a group
of people of all ages from all walks of life with a common interest
in enjoying the countryside and the pleasures obtained in the fellowship
of fellow walkers, the current membership tries to maintain these
objectives.
Walks, which are led by members, are organised by our walks committee
into a programme so that a choice of an "A","B"
or "C" walk is available on alternative Sundays.
"A" walks are usually about 14 miles and may include some
moderately strenuous sections, occasionally in the summer a longer
walk may be included. "B" walks are between 9 and 11 miles
and are less strenuous. "C" walks are more leisurely being
about 6 miles and start later than the other walks. We have two coach
walks each year, one in spring and one in autumn. Once a month during
the summer we have an evening walk which is supplanted with a social
evening in the winter time when we are entertained by various speakers.
In addition to walks in the Saddleworth area we travel farther afield
to Derbyshire, Yorkshire and the south Lancashire Pennines. Although
we use private transport lifts are readily available for those who
need them and for this reason we always meet at Lees library before
travelling to the start of the walk.
New members are very welcome and may come along initially as guests.
Should you then wish to join subscription is £4 per year.
