The CHA is the oldest walking holiday company in the country, set
up in 1893 to encourage participation in, and enjoyment of, the countryside.
The CHA, whilst no longer operating walking holidays, is still working hard to fulfil our founder’s vision. We are combining Rev TA Leonard’s philosophy with contemporary relevance to meet the needs of the 21st century.
The philosophical objectives of the CHA and the charitable activities of the Invited Guest Trust have been brought together under a new umbrella, the Countrywide UK Trust, and the initiatives of this charity are proving highly successful.

The Trust combines the philosophical objectives of the CHA and the charitable activity of the Invited Guest Trust and focuses much of its time and energy on developing opportunities for children from deprived areas in the UK to enjoy field study trips, environmental education and residential countryside activities.
For most of us, the countryside is a source of wonder and inspiration, a place for discovery, adventure and enjoyment, yet for some it remains out of reach. The Trust provides funds so that people, especially the young, have the opportunity to discover and experience our countryside. We focus on helping people, who are disadvantaged, to access and experience the countryside in order that they gain a greater understanding of the countryside and also gain self confidence in an outdoor environment. Much time and energy is spent on developing opportunities for children from deprived areas in the UK to enjoy field study trips, environmental education and residential countryside activities.
